Information for Officials and Volunteers

We are always happy to welcome new volunteers to our sport. If you would like to join the BEDE Events team as a volunteer, we would love to hear from you. Telephone 01949 829061, email or complete the form here with dates that you are able to help and what you would like to do. You do not need to come to the sport with any degree of knowledge, we provide any training that is necessary. Eventing is a unique sport as we are very privileged to be welcomed to some of the most beautiful sites in the Country.

The final lists for Osberton are up!  Apologies they are a little tardy.  Please do make sure you read the enclosed information if you haven’t read the email, to find all the relevant information regarding access etc.  Again, huge thanks to all of you who are joining us at Osberton, which is a bit of a marathon, but usually good fun!   If any of you who can join us for 100th Event Party on Wednesday 27th September haven’t let me know, please can you do so asap!  See the email for further info on this! If you wish to book your caravan in, you should have received a link within an email along with some instructions.  Please make sure you use the letter O rather than number 0 at the beginning of your BEDE number in order to validate your booking.

On Wednesday 26th July we had a trip to Oakham Veterinary Hospital very kindly hosted by Matt Hecking.  It was a fascinating experience seeing round the amazing facilities at Oakham and learning about their breeding facility as well as treating areas.  With very many thanks to Matt, Adam and all the staff at Oakham. The next trip planned for our wonderful army of volunteers is to the Remount Army Centre at Melton on Tuesday 24th October.  This will be a daytime visit, so do let me know if you would like to join us.

If you enjoy the sport and would like to know more, please contact us HERE

We now have a new range of merchandise – The BEDE Collection – which is available at special rates to all our helpers and volunteers. We will be placing bulk orders periodically, which  will help to keep costs down, so please look out for further information within your helper emails. Click here to see the new range and click here for an order form.

Volunteer “Extra Curricular” Activities 2017

In 2016, we started to run some additional activities for our volunteers as a small thanks for all your help.  This year we have another 3 planned!

Tuesday 24th October Time TBCTour of the Defence Animal Centre at Melton Mowbray.  This is a rarely seen facility where the Army and Airforce train their Canine, Equine and Veterinary Troops!  An amazing opportunity to see this amazing set up and once again, find out what happens behind the scenes.

VOLUNTEERS POLICY: As with any sport, we rely heavily on volunteers to be able to put on our events to such
a high standard. We need about 200 volunteers for a small event and we do try to look after them well and ask riders to appreciate their contribution to the sport too.

As a small token of our appreciation for your voluntary contribution to Bede Events, as a Volunteer you are entitled to a £15 Voucher for each day of volunteering that you do at any Bede British Evening Affiliated Event. (Oasby 1, Belton, Shelford 1, Shelford 2, Osberton and Oasby 2). These vouchers can be used towards start fees at a Bede Event and must be presented when collecting your number.

Please do not feel obliged to volunteer for more days than you really want to! Any feedback you have about any aspect of our events can be emailed to

Please be aware that the following terms and conditions apply to the vouchers: 1. Vouchers must be claimed at the event you are volunteering at. They are available from the Event Office. Unfortunately we are not able to provide vouchers retrospectively. 2. Vouchers are not transferable and can only be used by the person named on the voucher. 3. Please be aware that there is an expiry date on the voucher. We are unable to redeem expired vouchers. 4. Only one voucher can be used per transaction - Osberton International Horse Trials Incorporating The KBIS British Eventing Young Horse Championships - 3rd October 2015

From time to time we will have branded merchandise for sale and will endeavour to offer our volunteers a discount on such items. Please look out for these offers at point of sale, which is usually either the Event Office or online. Regular volunteers who commit to a number of days throughout the season following the preseason email will be issued with a Bede Official’s Card, which is valid on all days of all chargeable events (Belton and Osberton) regardless of whether or not you are volunteering.
