Project Pony Event Series Launches
March 15, 2024

BEDE Events, in partnership with Project Pony and British Eventing, are pleased to confirm the introduction of the Project Pony Event Series that creates progression opportunities for pony riders looking to compete at the CCI2*P level.

The Series has been designed to create a structured calendar of events, throughout the season, that offer dedicated BE100 and Novice Pony sections, culminating in the CCI2*P at Osberton International in October.  The Series aims to build the level of technicality of pony classes throughout the year, preparing combinations for the end of season CCI2*P.  Each event will also benefit from a dedicated coach being available to offer course walks and further support to pony riders.

The BEDE Events team have been working with Project Pony and British Eventing to help create further new opportunities for pony riders to access to some international events to experience and compete within the unique atmosphere these events present, in preparation for European Championships and teams’ competitions.

The Eventing Spring Carnival will play host to the inaugural Project Pony Combined Training, which will enable pony riders to ride a CCIP2* dressage test within the international arenas of the Thoresby Walled Gardens, following on from the Lycetts Grantham Cup. Combinations will then jump in the Main Arena on Saturday afternoon in reverse order of merit, soaking up the atmosphere of the Easter weekend crowd as they gather to watch the conclusion of the Grantham Cup and CCI4*S.

All ponies who are competing in the 2024 Pony Programme are eligible, with priority given to those combinations who are qualified for a CCIP2*.

Project Pony commented:

“Project Pony is delighted to be supporting BEDE and British Eventing in our shared vision of establishing a series of events for pony riders to develop important competition experience throughout the season and to enable them to make the step-up to international level successfully.”

“The opportunity offered to the pony combinations currently qualified for a CCIP2 of competing in the Project Pony combined training held at the Eventing Spring Festival at Thoresby International is an invaluable step in their preparation towards their upcoming International fixtures at Osberton and Belsay. It’s great experience for them to be exposed to the electric atmosphere and crowds they will encounter whilst competing at Thoresby International and we hope they will gain crucial skills for the future, and we are very grateful to BEDE for giving them this high-profile platform to perform on.”

BEDE Events Director, Stuart Buntine commented:

“We are continually grateful for the support of Project Pony in enabling this to happen, alongside the support from British Eventing. We look forward to welcoming our young riders, and stars of the future, to Thoresby this year and hope to help support pony riders on their way through the system.”

Events included in the Project Pony Series are:

  • Oasby (1)
  • Shelford (1)
  • Catton Park
  • Solihull (2)
